The School of Museum Studies has been a leading, internationally renowned centre for research and teaching since 1966. The School works with museums, galleries and related cultural organizations internationally to develop creative practice through leading edge teaching and research. The University of Leicester's School of Museum Studies has the highest proportion of world-leading rated research in any subject in any UK university (RAE 2008) The School of Museum Studies will head the thematic study on the Museology of Europe and take part in several of Eunamus case studies. Simon Knell

Simon Knell is professor of museum studies in the School of Museum Studies. He is a museologist, geographer and cultural historian with a particular interest in the production of museums, material culture and disciplinarity. He has published extensively on museum collecting and collections, material culture and the material purposes of museums, and on learned societies and the socialisation of science. He is leading work packages 4 and 7 in Eunamus where he will be looking at the materialisation of Europe, distributed national museums, European disciplinary connections, trans-European online communities, and future policy initiatives uses the past in national museums.

Sheila is a historian in the School of Museum Studies in Leicester. As a member of the EuNaMus partnership she will be responsible for research into the development of national museums in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland (Work Package 2). She will also be involved in the exploration of historiographical practices in national museums across Europe (Work Package 3) and the materiality of Europe and the nation (Work  Package 4,  working with Professor Simon Knell.  Her interests include the ways in which visitors understand the museum and she will be supporting research undertaken in Work Package 6 which seeks to understand how national and European identities are perceived by museum visitors.
