Abstract

In the Meaning-Text framework, the dependency syntactic structure is proposed for binary conjunctions of the IF–THEN type: e.g., IF→Y, THEN←X A universal typology of conjunctions is sketched, and three examples are given for English binary conjunctions. Binary conjunctions are “discontinuous” phrasemes—phrasemes that have to be considered together with their actants.
