Digital Product Simulation (DPS) has created a library for modeling city traffic. This library is designed for the development and evaluation of control strategies, which will be possible when vehicles are able to communicate between each other and with the infrastructures. The library is flexible enough to allow the implementation of control strategies for all the actuators present in urban environments (e.g. located in each vehicle, in a global server that computes set points for the vehicles or in the traffic management system that determines speed limits and traffic lights cycles).
The library is divided in two sections, macroscopic traffic and microscopic traffic. Macroscopic components are used to build road networks such as highways whereas microscopic components allow modeling city traffic where interactions between vehicles and their environment are high.
Using city traffic library, cities can decrease traffic jam in their road network and they can improve the overhaul impact of the traffic on the environment.
