Japan was a country who had almost closed and isolated from the world until 1854; and modern education systems were not applied until 1872. Education and teaching were held in a small informal private school in those days. World affaires were informed to the child by some teachers who concerned through their interests. Shirase was born in 1861 and brought up in rural place; got his primary education in such small school and a teacher told the pupils some stories of exploration performed by Westerners.
