vala023153_duvkullen_250.jpg (9216 bytes)Duvkullen is the first step in a geographically lengthened lock stairway. The stairway ends at the Övre Carlsborg Lock.

The locks have been named after two of the Canal Company's chief engineers (chief mechanics) - Erik Hagström (1814 - 1820) and Gustaf Lagerheim (1820 - 1845).

In von Röök's proposal from 1774 (left), one can see that the canal follows a small, natural watercourse.
