Dubai; a port city of the United Arab Emirates in the Gulf; is policed by the Dubai Police Force (DPF). Also known as the Eastern gate of the Gulf States; this coastal city faces security threats like:
- Geographical: DPF has to oversee the coastal city with an area of roughly 4 Km2 and a coastline of about 700 Km.
- Emigration: Mass emigration from the region; given the high population density; low national income and scarce job opportunities in the neighbouring countries. This can be considered as the centrifugal force engulfing the city.
- Immigration: Dubai is a labour magnet due to its high national income; low population density and abundant job opportunities. High immigration acts as centripetal force and poses a grave security threat.
In the wake of increasing legal and illegal immigration; coupled with the resultant high population density; a cultural change is inevitable in the city. Currently; Dubai is populated with an assortment of people with different cultures; values and languages. DPF has to counter these forces by evolving and adopting quality policing towards offering better services to the public.
