The insert of the book

The typography in the thesis should be functional. It is LiU branded mainly on the cover. Usually, insert templates are available from your department or faculty. Otherwise, we provide a Word template and a link to a LaTeX template below. Use the template as a guide when formatting your thesis. It makes it easier if you use the template already when you start writing your thesis. The library cannot unfortunately provide support for Microsoft Word; please contact IT trainers for Word courses for employees. However, if you find any errors in our template, please let us know.

Templates for the exhibition page (Spikblad)

The exhibition page is a loose sheet inserted in the thesis to announce the public defense. The layout varies between faculties. Download the template for your faculty.

Templates for the cover

It should be easy to recognize a doctoral/licentiate thesis as coming from LiU. It is therefore important to use LiU's typography and logo correctly on the cover.

The thesis cover always contains:

• The top of the front cover should state the series name and thesis number. Some theses belong to more than one series; in such cases, all series names and numbers should be included on the cover.
• The front cover should display the thesis title and the author's name.
• LiU's logo in Swedish or English version, in black or white. Do not change the size and position from the template.The language of the logo should match the language of the thesis.
• On the front cover, only use KorolevLiU. Different weights can be used to create variation. On the back, longer texts can be set in Miller or Georgia.
• The spine must contain author, title and year. LiU's primary logo can be placed at the top if there is room for it. Do not use any other logo to save space.
• The covers are printed on New Ensocoat ECO 250g, which is stocked by LiU-Tryck. Colored paper and effect paper are only used to the extent that they fit within LiU's graphic profile.

Use the following PowerPoint templates as draft for your cover. Save and send to your contact at LiU-Tryck, who will design and finalize the cover. They will help with details such as correct fonts, logos, and image placement.
