In der theologischen Friedensethik wird das jahrzehntelang kaum umstrittene Paradigma des „gerechten Friedens“ seit einigen Jahren durch die Forderung eines „Realismus“ angesichts von politischen Krisen und (drohenden) kriegerischen Auseinandersetzungen provokant herausgefordert. Das vorliegende Paper arbeitet im Rückgriff auf den Vater des christlichen Realismus, Reinhold Niebuhr, Grundlinien eines theologischen Realismus heraus und präzisiert auf diese Weise den oft unscharfen Begriff „Realismus“ in seiner onto-theologischen, offenbarungstheologischen, anthropologischen, eschatologischen und politischen Dimension. Auf dieser Grundlage wird abschließend die Leistungskraft eines im Anschluss an Niebuhr entwickelten theologischen Realismus als Kategorie ethischer Urteilsbildung für die Friedensethik bewertet.
