A library is introduced that performs modal analysis to powertrain models that are created using the PTDynamics library. The basic principles and problems of carrying out this kind of analysis are discussed together with some of the features developed in the library to overcome these. Simple examples are used to illustrate the problems and solutions. An example of a complete powertrain model is then analysed using the library and it’s natural frequencies and modal response discussed.
